Description: | Roquetas de Mar is the largest resort in Costa de Almeria, specialising in package holidays. The resort developed from a typical fishing village which still exists. It has a number of long sandy beaches (including a naturist beach!) and a harbour. Sights to see in the town include the Roman statue of Dionysius, the preserved amphitheatre Cerro de Villavieja, and the ruins of the castles of Santa Ana and Los Bajos. Property is on the whole cheaper than on the Costa del Sol, but prices have risen steadily over the past few years. This is expected to continue for quite some time as the resort is the fastest growing town in the province of Almeria. Roquetas de Mar is also planned to host part of the 2005 Mediterranean Games. Even though the yields are not that exciting the opportunity for capital growth is. There has been and will be significant investment from the private and governmental sector till at least 2007. The government has ear-marked this area as one of it’s flagship areas to promote Spain to the rest of the country. The private sector has followed through with investment accordingly.
